A font’s weight, or thickness, can give visual cues to the user as to the importance of a text block. When text is placed on varying colored backgrounds, a font’s weight can also improve accessibility.

The WashU Web Theme assigns different font weights depending on the text style used. Body text in the web theme uses the default font-weight – a weight of 400. This font weight is used across the site in most areas, however there are some exceptions. These include:

  • Lead Paragraph – 300 font weight
  • H2, H3, H4, H5, H6 – 600 font weight
